Oldest Child's Earliest Obsession

My child was obsessed with vacuums.

He played with our vacuum for hours and hours.....and hours.
Sometimes it was on.
Sometimes he would pretend making his own vacuum-y sounds.

He would inspect them to see if he could figure out how they worked.
He looked at all of the sales fliers in the newspapers with vacuums.
And catalogues.
And even search for vacuums in his toddler storybooks.

My child would go to friends homes and want to see their vacuums.
And he couldn't understand why other kids didn't find them as fascinating as he did.
But they were more interested in playing with toys.
Go figure.

We were a little worried.
But we were also fairly new at the parenting thing and thought it was so frickin cute.
Cute was more important than weird.
So I took pictures.
And even scrap booked some of the fliers he took to bed.
I would show you if I could find them.
But since I cant find them, you will have to take my word.

It is true.

My son is now 8 1/2.
He has no interest in vacuums.
Or anything to do with cleaning.

But he is still cute.

*This post was very loosely inspired by MamaKat's weekly prompts.  You can go see her for more workshop posts.

Well darn. Here I thought you were going to tell me that he was still fascinated with vacuums and was willing to vacuum for anyone. I was all set to send him a ticket to "visit" for a bit.

Too bad that obsession went out the window, huh? ;) Now you need to find that scrapbook layout!

Yes, I agree. I want to see the evidence that this happened.

How weird. :)

But no weirder than my children.

For the first two years of his life, my older son carried two yellow Megablocks everywhere he went. We kept a stash in the car, in the diaper bag, and in every room of our house. He learned to crawl on the backs of his wrists so he wouldn't have to put the yellow blocks down.

We, too, were worried. Now, he doesn't play with the Megablocks at all...but I can't get rid of them for sentimental reasons. I imagine you're hanging on to your vacuum for other purposes.

Hi! Just stopping by from Mama Kat's. Glad to have found you.

This is hilarious. Neither of my kids have had any odd obsessions so far...but I almost wish they did, because I'm sure it would make for many laughs around the dinner table when they are older. My 2 yo is into trains. It is a very non-funny and expensive obsession. But he is cute regardless.

Actually my oldest son was obsessed with vacuums, too. He called them marments. (I still use that made up word in my email address.)
