Now instead of Forrest Gump.... and the braces.... and the beautiful sunny weather, imagine a 9 year old black dog running through bushes and mud and his wonderful owner calling him excited for him to come back home.
Better yet, imagine his owner screaming his name as she shook his treat bag hoping to lure him back....unsuccessfully.
I know exactly what he was thinking as he ran the opposite way while I made a complete fool of myself using every possible "doggie bribe" I could to get him home.
"Ha, what a fool she is. There are other dogs over there to play with. Doggie bums to sniff. Poop to roll around in. Mud to run and jump in. And she thinks she is going to get me to come home for a lousy old dry dog treat. Not a chance. I may be 9 but I am not an idiot."
So off he went into the wilderness to explore while I stood there with a bag of dry treats and a baby looking at me like I had completely lost my marbles. I did the "good- dog -mommy" thing and got into the dog-catcher-mobile aka minivan to rescue the animal from the elements.
Ok, who am I kidding? I got into the vehicle cursing Studley and secretly hoping some nice old man would find him and keep him for his own.
I drove around for 30 minutes. Seriously, how far can a 90 pound dog get in such a short period of time?
I gave up. Came back home. Pulled in the driveway.
To be greeted by a 90 pound muddy, but very cute dog.
How can I resist this face?

Oh that's funny. He sure is a cutie!!!!!
Thanks for coming by last week, I am still playing catch up!
It is sooo frustrating when a dog runs away and won't listen!!!! I'm glad your dog came back all on his own. :)
Yep, they drive you crazy and about the time you say "screw it" they look at you and you're in love all over again!
Such a cute story...and dog!! I had the pleasure of searching for my dog for two hours with my four kids because a certain lawn company decided to leave my gate open...needless to say, after questioning and much investigation, I learned that some teenage kids found him on their way home, and decided to keep him!! AHG!! Well, I made sure they didn't, and we are living happily ever after with our giant Mastiff of a dog!! Love your blog!!
You had me at Forrest Gump....then you went and posted about that sweet doggie. Awesome!
