WW-Messy and the Mohawk

It was time for a haircut and I got the kids ready to go to our usual place for the usual haircuts.

Nothing drastic. Just the usual snip so their hair was short enough that it doesn't stand up. I don't comb hair if I don't have to.

So on our way there we had our usual discussion in the mini van.

"If we are good, will they give us a sucker?"

"Yes, as long as they have them"

"I am first"

"No, I am first"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO I AM FIRST!"

*smack*

*punch*

"Boys, if you don't behave then you will not get a sucker"

"I want gel in my hair so I am stylin'"

"Ok, just ask hairdresser when she is finished cutting ok?"

"I want alot of gel because I am getting a mohawk"

"PARDON ME?"

My 7 year old wanted a mohawk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I do not consider myself old in any way. Actually I consider myself quite cool and stylin' in a mom-wearing-jeans-and -sweatshirt- kind -of -way. But when my 7 year old told me he was getting a mohawk I had a moment.

A moment of panic.

A moment thinking "This is not supposed to happen until he is 15".

A moment not knowing what the heck to do.

Do I freak out? Do I say "No" and leave it at that? Do I say "Yes dear" and let him get whatever he wants?

I needed to investigate.

After finding out that the "bad kid" in his class has a mohawk and that's why my son (who is a very well behaved intelligent kid in his class) wants one, I said "No".

I also threw in the "You're too young" reason.

And the "You will look silly" reason.

But he didn't like my reasons. Hmmm..............

So I said I would talk to hairdresser and see if there was something she could do special just for him.

And I did just that.

"Hairdresser, my intelligent well behaved 7 year old would like a mohawk *wink* wink*"

"No problem. I can make one that will stand up OR lie down flat"

7 year old thought that was fabulous! 2 hairdos for the price of one! Cool!

He was very excited.

Until she was done.

Oh, the haircut discussions! All three of my sons have their preferences, and it did all start around the same age as your dear son. Tell him I said, "It's WAY cool!"

Enjoy your blessings!

He looks totally unimpressed. I think it was a great middle of the road type cut! What a cool mom:)

Oh, I think he looks so awesome...but, by that look on his face, I don't think he'd agree. LOL! Happy Wordful Wednesday!

I love the cut but I could see how he'd be dissapointed. His little face is so crestfallen...
Oddly enough, I told my 4 year old he could get a mohawk and I'd dye it blue if he would just get it cut. (He has tonsurephobia...phobia of haircuts.) I can't remember the last time I saw his sweet face under all that hair...
Happy Wordful Wednesday!

I love this post! - I too had to ward off the mohawk phase. My son has curly hair, so I tried to stress how silly he would look - I just had to keep putting it off until he didn't ask anymore - you are right, they are supposed to be much older when they start asking for "punky" stuff.
The other good thing is, I am the one that cuts his hair! - so it is all up to me anyway! lol

You never know...he might go in the bathroom some day with an electric razor, and he'll have himself a REAL mohawk...my nephew did that a few years ago!

Of course, you will NEVER be able to let me see these comments. If he were to ever find out that all these OLD people think he's cute and like his hair .. .. .. well, let's just say he would be mortified beyond belief. Probably never show his face in public again. Might just shave his whole dang head!!

But, OH THOSE EYES!!
