Do What Works

This has become my motto as a mom of three.

I had good intentions before birthing my children and actually learning how darn difficult it really is.

My children have proven that calm discussions do not always work.

They have shown me that I cannot use the television as a babysitter.

They have let me know that healthy food sucks.

They require work. And patience. Who would have thought that parenting was more than smiles and cuddle time.

I have learned something that works. Something I always thought was silly and swore I would never do.

There goes life kicking me in the butt again. For the gazillionth time.

6 words.

"Wait until your father gets home."

Or I change it up a bit just to scare them.

"Your father will be hearing about this."

"I am going to call Dad at work to let let him know about this."

"If you don't _______ I will be calling your father."

I am not ashamed to admit that I do this on a regular basis. What I am ashamed to admit is that my husband has so much "power" over my children that he actually scares them into behaving when it is me that is around 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I carried these children for 9 months. I went through alot of pain to bring them into this world. I stayed up all night long for months and months and months providing food and comfort and snuggle time. I have cleaned their bums thousands of times. I am here for every frickin moment...good and bad.

And I get no respect.

So until I do, I will resort to using the word "father" while disciplining my kids. One day I will get the respect I deserve.

One day my children will appreciate all I have done for them.

I hope.

Or they will just be terrified of their father.

LOL, my mom used to say that when we were younger...she claims she didn't, but she totally did. And it worked for her too!

I say keep it up!

You are not the only one - I too use this threat. it is a little annoying that Dad scares them but not me! I wish I could channel that deep voice!

Oh MY God! This is exactly the same in my house! Daddy gets obeyed and respected and listened to and I get ignored and talked back to and yelled at. I have started playing the "Daddy" card too! Too funny!

But who do they seek out when they don't feel good or get hurt or need a hug? Mommy!!!!

It's true! The word father works like a charm. ;)

I've started feeling the same way! Reagan is only three and she thinks she is the BOSS for the entire house. Not even a threat about Daddy works lately!
