I spent the day feeling sorry for myself and wishing I never had to go to school again. I spent the day quietly thinking. I spent the day not wanting the day to end.
Because the next day was the first day of school.
Now, as a parent, I have to watch my children experience the same feelings with a little excitement added in. The anxiety they have not knowing their teacher well, not knowing who is in their class, not knowing what kind of work they will be doing.
It is enough to make me want to experience it again for them so they dont have to.
Ok, maybe not.
But anyways, as a Mother I try my hardest to get them excited and not let them figure out that school
We talk about school. We prepare school lunches. We label everything with their very own {very expensive} labels.
And they go to bed early.
But then one child doesnt fall asleep until almost 11pm because his tummy feels "funny" and he "just can't sleep".
I think he takes after me.
And my husband.
Imagine that.
Can you guess what son of ours had rumblys in his tumblys until way past everyone's bedtimes???
I will give you a hint.
It wasnt this one.
Honest.
......It was this one. The one who looks excited, happy and cheerful. The one who is smiling in every picture. The one who marched on in to the school playground as if he owns it. The one who had a crowd of friends around him while they waited for the bell to ring.
Were you right?

Oh how funny, I never would have guessed. I'm going to have to check out the fancy kicks you kids wear.
I would have never guessed! Yeah - you couldn't PAY me to go back to school now. Especially after I've seen the homework that Man-Child carts home. If I had to do all that I don't think I would have (or could have) graduated!
I never would have guessed.
I didn't guess right!!! I always LOVED school ... and was just giddy with anticipation. My son seems to be the same way. Let's hope that sticks!
Hilarious! Not that he had rumbly tummy and not that he was cheerful in spite of it. It's funny that your other son reminds me of mine pretty much EVERY morning. He loves school, but can't understand why it has to be in the morning, every morning. He's not a morning dude at all! Hope he had a good time anyway:)
I totally guessed wrong! Princess Nagger is in the "I don't want to go...EVER!" mode. By the end of the school year, she doesn't want it to end. :)

Not only is this a fabulous post but your blog name is fantastic!
Of course I was wrong!! I fell for that one hook line and sinker!
Excited or not, your kids look FAB for the first day of school!!
P.S. We're in week three of school, and Gracie FINALLY fell asleep after 11 last night. Seriously, I have no control over bedtime in this house. Sigh.
I totally would have guessed your oldest son! Here's to a wonderful scholastic year!
I get it, trust me, I do. But those "not so happy" faces on your other dude are just too awesome. :)
