Daughters and Dancing

She is over 3 years old and takes up alot of my time, but I still have to pinch myself when thinking about being a Mommy to a little girl.
I never knew how much I wanted to have a daughter until I had one.
And now that she is out of diapers, in love with princesses, dresses and all things girly, I am realizing just how girly I am too.
So when we went to the local dance apparel store to purchase her "dancing clothes", I think I was maybe just a little more excited.
OK. Alot more.
Upon stepping into the best place on Earth the dancing store, I might have let out a loud squeal and jumped up and down...then twirled...and skipped over to the skirts and tutus.
I will never tell.
They had skirts and frilly tutus and princess wands and tiaras and even ballerina Xmas tree ornaments and ballet shoes and bags with tutus on them.
I.Was.In.Heaven
And so was the girly daughter of mine.
In fact, she was so overwhelmed that she actually sat on the floor with a wand in one hand and tiara in another and said "I never want to go home."
Or maybe that was me.

Is it wrong that I wanted to sign her up for jazz? And Tap? And buy her absolutely everything in the pretty pink store?

Is it wrong that I wanted to sign myself up for ballet so I could wear pointe slippers and a pink tutu?

I restrained myself.
Until our next outing.
Gosh darn, I hope she never decides to be all "boyish".

Dumb Mom is a mom to dudes!
I like her alot.

I remember being giddy like that when my girls were little. For years, I laid out their clothes for school everyday and did their hair. Now that they're older, those days are over. Hope she enjoys her dance class. Sounds fun.

Now you are making me kinda wish I had a girl! I don't think I've ever even been inside a dance store.

You got it perfectly right when you said you didn't know how much you wanted to be a mom to a girl until you had one. I am totally the same way! I cannot wait for our first trip to the dance store...I will probably act just like you did!

My 10 year-old might get to start pre-pointe next year. That would mean about 3 more years and she could get those toe ballet shoes. It will be a very exciting day!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my girls. All three. I'm glad they like to dance. I'm glad they also like bugs and playing soccer. Every woman needs girls (and boys too). :)
