Dear Children

I am not sure if you realize this, but I used to be a kid too.
And then I grew up and got smarter.
So when you quietly go into the cupboards and fill your pockets with cookies, I know.
And when you wet the toothbrush to make it look like you brushed your teeth, I know.
When you leave an empty cup in the fridge, I know.

Even when you tell me your room is clean, but really threw everything under your bed, I know.
The thousands of times you hide your snack wrappers under the couch cushions, I know.
And when pieces of gum go missing from the package, I know they didn't get up and run away.

I know exactly what you are doing.
Because I used to be a kid too.
