Whitney Houston

Drugs are bad.
For f%&*s sakes people, just say no to drugs.
I know there has been no official "cause of death" released, but I think we all have a pretty good idea that Whitney Houston did not die of natural causes.

I used to idolize Whitney Houston.
This is how I remember her.
Man, when this album was released and my next door neighbour friends who got everything I wanted, got this record, I became obsessed.
We would write the lyrics of every song on to paper and play each song over and over again until we knew every word.
Then we would grab a hair brush/comb or anything that resembled a microphone and belted out each song word for word, convincing ourselves that we sounded just as good, if not better, than Whitney.

The truth is no one was ever as good as Whitney at that time.
She was perfection.
I wanted her voice.
Her skinny body and long legs.
Her perfectly white teeth.
Her flawless skin.
Her hair {that I know now was a wig}.

Then she married Bobby Brown.
And the girl I wanted to be, became the woman I never wanted to turn out like.
I felt like I was watching a bad soap opera, except it was real life.

Whitney disappointed me.
And, now as we mourn the star who unravelled in front of our eyes, I cannot say I am surprised.
I am devastated that her daughter has to live the rest of her life without her Mother.
Her healthy drug-free Mother.
I am devastated that Whitney never got the chance to get healthy for her daughter who needed her so badly.
I am devastated that the world doesn't get to witness her like she was back in 1985.

Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presley, Heath Ledger.
Man, this sucks.
RIP

It's unfortunate that we see the same sad story played out over and over again - and yet still there is a drug problem. I suppose it's because the users think it will never happen to them. Tragic.

I can't help but wonder how she would have turned out if she had never met Bobby Brown. So sad for her daughter.

I know. I automatically assume it was drug-related too. It is such a shame when talented people get caught up in drugs and go too soon.
