I Just Needed a Reason to Search Pinterest for Stuff I Will Never Have. Now I am Depressed.

I secretly dream of owning a small cottage in the woods.....with some ocean/lakefront property.
Nothing big and fancy.
Just home-y and rustic with some feminine touches.

I want a place that isn't too overwhelming to care for but nice enough to welcome my family comfortably.
I want natural and simple home decor.
I want many windows with pretty window coverings.
I want comfy lawn chairs with a nice deck overlooking the water.

I want a dog to sit by my side as I drink my girly drink(s).
I want my kids to bring their kids to my home-y home.
So we can hang out.
Play.
And they can fetch me more girly drinks.

I am madly in love with barn wood stairs!

Source
And beam ceilings!!!!!

Ohmygoodness!  A bench made from barn beams!
If I had one, I might hug and kiss it.
If anyone finds an old ladder, please get it for me, please and thank you.
I will love you forever.
And would probably hug and kiss you.

The reason for this post?
None.

What does your dream home look like?

Bienvenue! {That is "Welcome" in French}

It is so friggin hot here people.
Yes, believe it or not, Canada gets warm hot weather and this week is about all I can handle for the summer when we don't own a swimming pool.
So, we used our imaginations.
d1bfa032bb0711e1ab011231381052c0_7
Yeah, it still sucked.
We need a pool.
We need to live somewhere with waterfront property.
We need to move south where the air isn't so humid.
We need to win the lottery.
We need to...ummm....buy lottery tickets so we can win.

Anyways, on a totally unrelated topic, today I am showing you my dining room which isn't really a dining room because it is kinda in my kitchen, not separated by any walls.

Make sense?

Didn't think so.

When we re-did the house, we took down a wall and opened the kitchen up so it was one big, huge room with high ceilings. We did not want a separate dining room because it would rarely get used and just collect junk.

So this is what we ended up with.
DSC_1007

Hubby picked out the furniture, can you tell?
Dark, manly, Hugh-Hefner-like.
I put up a good fight, but in the end he won and ended up getting his big, huge table that we cant touch because God forbid it might get a scratch!!!
Love you honey.
DSC_1008DSC_1012
Hubby also picked out the light fixtures.
I like them....now.
DSC_1010DSC_1009
My concerns with this "area" are wall space.
There is none.
And this window.
This huge, bare window that has no coverings at all.
We live on a country road that doesn't get many cars or walkers, but it is still bare and gets really sunny in the late afternoon.
Help...please and thank you.
DSC_1013
Not much else to say.
It is a simple, plain area with an ugly centerpiece and no window coverings or photographs on the wall, but it does the job.
When we have people over, there is somewhere to sit....and I don't have to walk very far to get stuff from the kitchen.
DSC_1011
There is wall space over there but it is high and I am lazy.
Can someone make it look pretty?
DSC_1014

We just have to be careful that we don't scratch hubby's precious table.
*ahem*
Do you have a separate dining room?
Does it get used or does it collect junk?

Au revoir!  {That is "Goodbye" in French}

I Vlogged!!!!!!!!!!!! About my closet!!!!!!!!

Only my sister in law can convince me to vlog.
Once upon a time, I swore I would never do it, but for her, no problem.
Except I am not on camera.
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yes, I am a Nervous Nelly.
A Shy Sally.
Don't judge.
It isn't easy being all Oprah-like on camera, especially when you arent making a gazillion dollars.

So, here it is.
A tour of my closet.
You can now sleep better at night knowing where Momma gets dressed....and Mr. Momma.
You can also be thankful that you have much more fashion sense than me.
If sweatshirts and jeans were the hottest trend out there, everyone would want to be just like me.

But, they aren't, so I will just continue living my life out of style.
Until I win a gazillion dollars so I can afford a stylist, like Oprah.
But I guess I would have to be on camera like Oprah too......
No thanks.

And just for fun, I have given you a video of Princess' closet.
Don't judge the messy.

My kitchen!!

OHMYGOODNESSOHMYGOODNESS!
It's my favourite time of the week!
The time when I get to stalk every one's kitchens and grab some ideas for my own home.
Nothing makes me happier than finding inspiration.

As I said last week, my style is simple and...ummm...boring.
I am not great at coming up with ideas in my mind but if I see something I like, I go with it.
Sometimes.
Or I just think about it.
Whatever.

I will tell you a secret.
Hubby designed our kitchen.
He had it all pictured before anything was built and I just went along with it because I knew he had good taste. I was pregnant at the time and only cared about eating bon bons and sleeping, so trusted his choices.
I was obviously not one with a clear mind.
I do not recommend having a house built while pregnant and parenting two little brats.
I still wonder why I am not doped up on high dosages of happy pills after that time of my life.
Oh wait.....I am!
Anyways................

Our kitchen is my favourite room in the house.
kitchen
I spend 90% of my time in it. Not because I want to, but because I have three children who feel the need to eat every once in awhile.
3 children=big mess
Big mess=Momma cleaning multiple times a day.
I love my kitchen, but there are a few things I wish we considered.
The dark cabinetry shows every little sticky crumb and milk splatter.
But one day my kids will grow up and I will miss it all.....I think.
DSC_0927
The stainless steel appliances are my enemy.
The fingerprints, smudges and pretty much any noticeable spot will show up in the shine and drive you crazy every day of your life.
Fun times.
DSC_0931
And the dark tile floor shows every single teeny, tiny crumb, which means I vacuum it at least twice a day.
Our vacuum has actually become part of our home decor because I refuse to put it away after every use.  Why, you ask?
Because it will be coming back out in just a few hours.
*sniff*
kitchen1
Truthfully, I love so much more than I hate, so I just suck it up and deal with all of the mess for now.
I love my island.
DSC_0937
I would love it even more if my island had palm trees, an ocean, white sand, cabana boys and girly drinks with much alcohol, but this island will do for now.
DSC_0936
It provides me with a second sink that I never thought I would use, but now know I could not live without it.
And the cultured stone is so lovely that I would like it in every room of my house please and thank you.
DSC_0926
I love my desk/TV area.
Another "thing" I thought I would not use, but now is the TV I watch the most because the brats have taken over the others.
Hmph.
Please tell your husband that if you have a television in your kitchen, you will cook for him more.
The next day, I am sure he will go right out and get you one.
You're welcome.
DSC_0932
I love the little shelves beside my sink so I can display things I love.
Like photos of my Great Grandmother's handwritten recipes.
Her name was Ruby.
The recipe name is "Ruby's cake"
I enjoy the name Ruby alot, don't you?
DSC_0930
I love my window above the sink.
This is where I have my little herb planter and a place where I can display my kid's artwork. Orrrrrrrrr, I can just look outside and watch Ike and Duke the horses.
DSC_0929
I love my little fridge nestled in my island, aka "The place that holds pop/beer/liquor/juice boxes".
DSC_0928
And the view.
Our deck is right outside the kitchen doors which makes it perfect for barbecue-ing and entertaining.
Or just sitting outside reading 50 Shades of Grey.
DSC_0934
So, there you have it.
My kitchen.
DSC_0939
Please tell me what you love or hate.
I can take it.
Just don't tell me to change the cabinetry or flooring unless you are willing to give me the money.
Do you love your kitchen?

An Island Life

May 31, 2012

C'mon in!!!!!

It's tour time again!
I know, you have been losing sleep because you are so excited to peek into every one's living rooms.
It's OK.  I don't judge.
In fact, I peek too.
I pin the wonderful ideas and plan on redecorating....
...then it never happens.

Because I am lazy.
And cheap.
And my kids wreck everything.
So when the brats grow up and move out, I have many wonderful plans for my home.
My house will look like it should be in magazines.
I will never have to clean up pee on my sofa or spilled milk on the floor.
There will never be another crumb on my kitchen tile or smashed toothpaste in the sink.
My toilets will be flushed after every use and my windows will no longer be covered in snot.

Then my grandchildren will come over.

Anyways.......
I have participated in this link up a few times in the past and if you have viewed my rooms before, I apologize, because nothing has been changed.
*cough*
Our home is very neutral in colours. Sadly, I am scared of alot of colour on my walls and prefer neutrals because it is so easy to work with. If we change our furniture, wall decor or knick knacks at any time, it will all probably match the neutral colour of our walls which makes it easy.
I enjoy easy.
And I hate painting.
That's just me. You might think I am crazy.....or just a wimp.
home

We had our home built 4 years ago and were lucky to have a builder/contractor who knew his stuff. We would give him our thoughts and then he would go with it and bring it all to life. I was secretly convinced that my husband would ask our builder to marry him if I wasn't 9 months pregnant at the time....and if our builder wasn't already married.
Anyways....
Our builder built ceiling beams and our fireplace mantel. They look rustic and stuff because he made them look that way.
I know. I would have married him too. Maybe we could have been like Sister Wives, but instead had Brother Husbands.
The Builder, The original husband...and me.
Just a thought.

This room is cozy. There is nothing better than sitting in this room in my comfy pyjamas with a fire roaring, reading a book.
Let me re-phrase that because I have never actually done it.
I am sure there is nothing better than sitting in this room in my comfy pyjamas with a fire roaring, reading a book.
With three young children, it is impossible to sit and read while they are awake. One day I will try it out and let you know how wonderful it is.
DSC_0798
DSC_0802

My decorating style, as you can see is simple and easy. I enjoy family pictures and natural elements. I don't enjoy clutter because it collects dust and I hate dusting. If you have any ideas to pass on, feel free.........
DSC_0800
DSC_0799
This is usually covered with DVDs/video games and other crap, but I cleaned it up just for you.
I also dusted.
You're welcome.
As you can see, this room is full of dark furniture. To me, it looks very masculine and I have threatened to add in some "girly" elements so people know that females actually live here. I just don't know how to go about it without it looking tacky.
Pink cushions?
How about a pink blanket to drape over the sofas?
OK....bad idea.
DSC_0809
If you look closely, you can see spilled milk on the leg of the sofa.
Classy.

Oh wait, I forgot.
There is already pink in this room.
It is Studley the dog's Disney Princess couch bed.
DSC_0810

So there you have it.
My simple, cozy, masculine, dark living/family room.
I am convinced it looks like a room that Hugh Hefner decorated.....just alot smaller.....with cheaper stuff...and no good looking creatures.
Unless you count Studley the dog.
All he needs is the silk robe.

Toodaloo!!

You can check out many more living rooms on Friday over at Kelly's.
And then come back for more over the next few Fridays.
This link up will give me the motivation to keep my house clean.
Maybe.
