Winter Wonderland

I enjoyed winter for about 2 hours the other day.
Snow had fallen during the night and we awoke to a wonderland.
I had just enough time to walk around the property capturing beauty before it melted and looked gross again.

Mother Nature and I have a love-hate relationship.

Butterfly Places Are Fun.....without boys.

Oh, hi there.
Remember I told you I was going to talk about my short road trip to Niagara Falls?
Apparently, I am 93 and have completely lost my memory.
And sanity.
And bladder control.

I blame my children for it all.
Brats.

During this very short road trip, my mom and I took the brats to the Butterfly Conservatory.
Don't they look excited??????
DSC_0743
Not because it was something they were begging to do, but because I enjoy butterflies and was determined to have them all land on my head.
It would totally be worth the price of admission if I could walk around with a pretty blue butterfly resting his/her wings on the top of my frizzy melon, don't ya think?

Knowing my luck though, the things would mistake my frizzy mess of a hairdo for the perfect place to make a home and I wouldn't notice there was an entire family living in there until I got home.
DSC_0753
But it would be funny, wouldn't it?7
DSC_0755
It didn't happen.
Not one of the buggers landed on any of us, even though we rubbed our fingers with orange slices and stood like idiots with our arms out, waiting.
DSC_0751
And the boys hated it.
Every frickin second we were there, I heard "This is boring"
or
"This is the worst place ever."
or
"Are we done now?"
or
"Never bring us here again."
DSC_0767
Shall I go on?
DSC_0757
But I enjoyed it.
And sometimes us Mommas need to do something that we want to do, even though no one else does.

Its a wonderful place and I highly recommend going.
Just leave your boys at home.
Or promise to let them climb trees after looking at the pretty butterflies.

One tip though........bathe in a scent butterflies enjoy so you can take some home.

Joking.
Take it easy.
Don't call the Butterfly Police on me.

Do you enjoy butterflies?
Has one ever landed on your head?
What scent do they love so I can bathe in it?

My therapist tells me to appreciate the smallest of successes. I am trying really hard.

Guys, I'm so sad.
DSC_0868
Our garden this year is not doing so well.
It has been so hot and dry that we haven't had much luck producing alot of the vegetables I love so much.
Broccoli was a huge disaster.  I finally ended up pulling it all and throwing it into the compost pile.
Our beans.  We get like 4-5 a day.
Our cucumbers are long, skinny and wrinkly like old dried up...ummm.....you know.
DSC_0869
Our tomatoes are OK but we didn't stake them early enough so they flopped over.
They are very small.
Just not how I like my tomatoes.
Although I have been making bruschetta every single day for lunch and it has been quite yummy, so I shouldn't really complain.
Size isn't everything I guess.
The carrots are small and odd shapes.
But the bunny likes them so I guess that's a good thing.
The onions are small but that's OK because I don't like them anyways.
Gardening successes are few.
I am trying to celebrate the small positives because my therapist says I should.

Green peppers.  We have so many, I have been giving them to random strangers who walk by our house.  I hate green peppers.
Zucchini.  They are huge and long.  Perfect.  Except I don't like zucchini.
Beets.  I even made beet relish.  I hate beets.
Green onions.  Anyone want some?  I hate the buggers.
Acorn squash.  I have eaten so much of it that when I think of eating more, it makes me ill to my stomach.
And sunflowers.  WTF do I do with sunflowers other than take a few pictures and put them in a vase?
DSC_0872
Do you have a garden?
Has it been a good year or craptastic year?
Anyone want some sunflowers?
Remind me next year to plant stuff I actually eat.
Thanks muchly.

If I Die Young

I want to be surrounded by lilies.
DSC_0502
Pink, white, orange, yellow. I want the room to be smothered with the beauty of lilies everywhere people turn.
DSC_0506
There can be pictures.
People can tell stories about the funny stuff I did.
DSC_0504
Like when I picked the onions out of the garden months before they were ready.
Or when I hit the curb at Costco and busted a tire.
But I still want lilies around.
DSC_0531
And maybe some songs that I love would be nice too.
No sad stuff though, because a room full of lilies should make people smile.

The End.
