My {Independent} Boys Camping Trip

Soooooooooooo....last weekend the boys stayed in a tent with my dear Uncle.
After that experience, all they have wanted to do is buy a mansion tent, move their belongings and stained, hole-filled clothing into it and live independently.
Sounds good to me.
But they need to get a job first.
And their license.

So instead, they put up our small {non-mansion-like} tent, moved in their pillows, sleeping bags and portable DVD player and were set to camp.
In the backyard.
Right under Mom and Dad's bedroom door.
All by themselves.

Independence is grand for 6 and 8 year old boys.
Wearing Crocs with socks is not for their Mom.
But she allowed it because she enjoys watching them get excited about being all independent and stuff.
And she is just nice.
Reeeeeeeeeeeally nice.

Dad started a fire in our fire pit.
And the independent young men played Superheroes with their sticks.
Until Mom yelled because it is dangerous to light up a stick and then "fling" it all over the place.
Geesh.
Mr. Independent #1 and #2 were ready for their adventure.
Mom took pictures to document another milestone in the lives of her boys.
And let them know how excited she was for them.

Independence is grand for 6 and 8 year old boys.
They lasted until 930pm.
They came in the house crying because they were scared and then slept in their beds instead.

Mommy wasn't ready for the independent thing anyways.

Oh boy(s)! You've got yourself a pair there, momma :)

So cute.

I can totally relate. We put our tent out at the beginning of summer, my boys never slept in it or even attempted to. Oh, there was MUCH talk about it...until a day or two went by and they found spiders and earwigs in it.

Mine are 11, 9 and 5.

And I wasn't near to ready, either :)

Great post!!

Ugh! No socks with crocs! That's as bad as black socks with flip flops! A true assault on this shoe-lovers eyes!

I kinda figured they'd come in eventually. It is dark and creepy out there.

Awww! Well the fun part of camping is the stuff you do when you're awake. The sleeping part is not so fun. I don't blame them one bit for choosing their beds. They weren't scared, they were choosing comfort over the hard ground. :)

That totally makes me laugh! At least they lasted until it was dark out.

How cute! I was wondering if they would last the night. LOL
Mine have only recently started to venture out camping on their own and it was a shock to this mama too .

too funny! my oldest two are 3 and I'm already amazed at how independent they WANT to be at times...but then am quickly reminded that they ARE still young and NEED/WANT me :-) Not always a bad feeling :-)

You are such a good momma to let them try though! (Our last camping trip ended in tears and coming home early too.) I'm not ready for mine to start testing his independence yet either. Can't they just stay little?!

I LOVE that your boys had the camping experience but chose to sleep in their beds in the end. That's MY kind of kid! LOL
