A Poem.

Messy, my 9 year old boy.
Has discovered a new useful toy.

The telephone is his new found hobby
And while chatting, he is awfully snotty.

To me, his mom.
Not to his friends on the phone.
Because they are girls
And he places them high up on a throne.

They make him giggle.
He makes them squeal.
He acts so polite to them.
To me its unreal.

I have dreaded this for years.
Seeing my baby grow up.
I knew the time would come
When love from mom wouldn't be enough

Now he needs friends that are girls
To occupy his free time
Talking about school, Webkinz and horses
Dropping his own Mother like a dime.

I must not let it bother me
Because at times when he is alone
And the girls are nowhere to be found
I will always put him high up on the throne.

My baby he will always be
For as long as he lives
Even when he pushes me away
My heart and soul is his

He's already interested in girls?! Oh heaven help you. I'm glad my 9 year old is still interested in baseball and video games. I hope it stays that way for a LONG time.

I was thinking nine was pretty early too.

Nice poem - I love your ending.

It's hard to watch them grow.

No, don't tell me this! I'm struggling with watching my toddler grow. Good luck!

I think this is all really normal. My 9 year-old daughter is getting poetry from a boy in her class. I've told her that she does NOT have to be his girlfriend but that she can't be mean about it. I don't want any of my girls being mean and breaking some 9 year-old boy's heart (cuz he's got a Momma out there somewhere and that would break her heart). He did ask for her phone number and she declined to give it (nicely). So, no phone calls yet. :)
