Smokey and the Woodpecker.

I am a cat person.
Let me rephrase that.
I am a barn cat person because cleaning litter boxes is probably the grossest thing a human can do.

One benefit of country living is having an unlimited supply of outdoor space for cats to do their business.
Just sayin.

I am not a bird person.
Let me rephrase that.
I am not a bird person unless there is a woodpecker on our property providing me with wonderful photo opportunities.

Another benefit of country living is having an abundance of trees for birds to sit in so I can take their picture.

The cats appreciated the bird sighting too.

But I am sure it was for a different reason.

Country living is never boring.

****Public Service Announcement. No birds were harmed in the capturing of these photos. Birds are much faster than cats. Just in case you weren't sure.

This is a post about ducks. Just because.

DSC_0223
Let me give you some back story before I go on talking about ducks.
My family is lucky enough to have some lakefront property on what I consider to be the prettiest little lake in all of Ontario.
When I am there, I am happy.
Calm.
Relaxed.
DSC_0224
It is my Heaven on Earth.
At this Heaven on Earth, there are many families of ducks that come by throughout the day to say hi, sleep...
DSC_0226
...or just sit and wait until we throw them some bread.
I believe that they like us and think we are the nicest non-ducks around.
DSC_0227
We welcome them and love them even though they don't come close enough for cuddles and kisses.
One day they will though....I just know it.
DSC_0228
And then I will become the crazy duck lady.
DSC_0229
Have I told you that I enjoy ducks?
I would like some of my own but am afraid the coyotes would get them.

Jerks.
They ruin all of my fun.

Signs from Heaven

Remember when I mentioned that I asked my Daddy to give me a sign that he was with me on my birthday?
Remember when I told you that I saw more blue jays than ever before so I knew he was "with me"?
Well, I totally forgot about this, until my Mom reminded me..
DSC_0607
As the entire family gathered to celebrate Mothers Day outdoors at my Grandma's home, there was a bright yellow bird right above us in the apple tree.
DSC_0609
It was very...
...very...
...very...
loud.
With an unusual sound. A loud, high pitched song of some sort was a constant, right above our heads.
DSC_0608
My dad was wanting to be a part of the celebration and he let us know all about it.

Thank you Daddy.
Thank you Mom{my} for reminding me of this.
Thank you little brother for getting pictures of it.

Do you constantly look for signs your loved ones in Heaven are close by?
Is it weird of me to do this?
Is this a sign that I am losing my marbles?
What kind of bird is this?

Spring.

I have a love-hate relationship with Mother Nature.
During the winter, she is not my friend.  Yes, it is beautiful to see snow falling on the trees, but when it is -30 and my boogers freeze instantly, it is not a pretty sight.
At this time of year I love her and would kiss her with the tongue if I could.
Maybe even make out with her.
Don't judge.

Walking outside my door with my pyjamas and rubber boots on is so much fun at this time of year, because I can find a pretty picture everywhere I turn.
Just not of myself.
Whatever.

I cant tell you how many times people tell me they have nothing to take a picture of when just walking around their home.
Think outside of the box people.
Look around.
Bend down.
Sit on the grass.
Look up.

The possibilities are endless.

Even in the depths of sadness, as I am right now, capturing bright colours and "new life" makes me smile.
DSC_0481

At times I wonder how the world can just go on when my Daddy isn't here to live in it........
DSC_0487

...but then I snap out of it and am thankful for the beauty still surrounding me.

The sounds....the colours....

....I just cannot get enough of it all at this time of the year.
Thank you Mother Nature.

Deep down I believe that appreciating every second, every sight, every bright colour and every breath I take is helping me get through this dark time.

And knowing that my Daddy is looking down from his beautiful new home makes me want to get outside to capture even more.

A Short Story

Once upon a time there was a bird.  Not the most attractive bird, but not many birds are, so I wont judge.
This bird built a nest outside of our newly built garage.
And then sat in it.
And sat.
And sat.
DSC_0290
Every day we would see if she was there...say our "hellos" and go about our day.

But then one day, she wasn't there.
We looked.
And looked.
"Here birdie, birdie"
"Where are you little birdie?"

We found her, thank goodness over by the garden.
DSC_0432
We pretended we didn't see her because she gets a little nervous and flies away if she knows we are watching.
She quickly walked over to where her nest is.
Flew up.
And we saw this.
DSC_0434
Wow!
She fed her babies and then went back for some more food I guess.
I looked up again and saw this.
DSC_0410
And this.
DSC_0409
I walked away for 10 minutes.
Came back and saw this.
DSC_0430
And this.
